I have not found my new groove yet. Still experimenting.
I had a fantastic weekend. I went to the Brixton Academy to see Groove Armada - one of my favourite bands. It was their last ever appearance. I hope they were fibbing and they play again.
We stayed here at The Church Street Hotel. It has a cuban mexican feel and is quirky and fun. Frida Kahlo kitsch lurks in every corner, bathrooms are tiled with beautiful bright tiles and the bedrooms had Green & Blacks' chocolate and colour washed walls. I loved the irony of a honesty bar in Brixton (you wrote in a little book what drinks you had). We had dinner at Angels & Gypsies which consisted of tapas and mojitas - well it was worth pretending we were in Mexico or Cuba. Cocktails at a bar. Then a DJ set at Brixton Academy, followed by an amazing show by Groove Armada and then another DJ set until 3 am ish in the morning. Finally, I am getting to live like an adult!!!
The hotel staff were great. I had had a pretty difficult week which included three trips to the dentist for the same piece of work to be done again and again, a puncture etc etc. I rang to check my booking as I wasn't convinced that due to the run of things going a bit Pete Tong that they would have my booking. The man told me in view of my bad week he would upgrade us so muchos gratias to him.
We had a lazy lunch at Covent Garden, steak and Rioja, and watched a very funny magician. A weekend of very happy memories.
Oh yes, one goal achieved this weekend = to dance in public and not feel inhibited. Impossible not to dance to this wonderous music. Thanks for still reading everyone xxxx
Just called by to see if you'd posted recently and lo and behold, you had.
As a complete coincidence, I have posted about Frida Kahlo today and more or just as coincidentally, used to live just up the road from the Brixton Academy although in those days, it was our local fleapit cinema.
