I read on somebody else's blog (sorry but I can't remember whose) about this little book - A hole is to dig by Ruth Krauss and pictures by Maurice Sendak. The pictures are adorable and there are occasionally little funny phrases.
I love the littleness of the children in the drawings.
Life is a bit of a rollercoaster at the moment with the closure of the school. No-one wants it to close and we are all trying to do something to keep it open. As I write this, my kitchen window is open and I can hear the children in the playground giving great big cheers. They are all doing a skipathon today to raise money for a heart charity. The whole school is doing it - students and teachers - even the little 2 year olds who are just stepping over their ropes! I will really miss the sound of the children in the playground. It is really sad that the school will be empty. My postman is depressed about it too. He reckons there is enough space to build 24 flats - another 24 deliveries for him and lots more stairs!!!!
Something that always cheers me up is our flower books. We have two Tricia Guild - Designers Guild - books open on two coffee tables in the lounge, which we walk past all the time. The children turn the pages for me daily so different images are displayed each day.
I love this page - something reassuring on a bad diet day :-)
My cheeky monkeys keep borrowing the camera. Most photos they take are pants - as in bad! I love to see what they are photographing though. Amongst the 60 photos that needed deleting, yesterday's images were new shoes and doing the splits!
The last thing today is did you know that Angel Delight mousse can fly? Check this photo out, there was a tiny bit at the bottom of the glass that Skyla knocked off the table. It is all over the floor, chair, stool and all over the patio doors. It took me over half an hour to find and clean every bit. Whilst cleaning the glass doors (his request) my son jumped up and gave me a cut lip. We had to pick Pasha up from Brownies with my swollen lip and poor Skyla all red faced because she cried as I had been hurt. Boy, did we make a fine pair! Add the fact that the mobile and home phone didn't stop ringing from 5.00 pm to 10.30 pm about the school, then the cut lip bit was actually time off for a minute! Another job to do - must get some new oil cloth for the table!
Hello, I came across your blog because I googled "A Hole Is To Dig"...one of my favorite books from childhood. Yesterday I went to see an exhibit on Maurice Sendak (the illustrator) at the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia, PA, USA. (see http://www.rosenbach.org/exhibitions/sendakonsendak/exhibition.html) Sorry to read about your school closing. Wishing you all the best.

Sorry to hear about the school closure, what a bumber!
I really loveing your models aka Julie! looks like you have had a really fun tutorial - can't wait to see them finished. Mmmm, the thought of clearing all that angel delight.... not great I bet, you will probably find bits for several weeks in the most unusual places!
Hope the lip settles down!
